The Grand Opera House is known as the premiere historic theatre in Central Georgia, and one of our region’s most cherished cultural gems. As performing arts center of Mercer University, we are proud to offer Broadway touring productions, music concerts and educational programs through our GrandKids series. The Grand has long been the site of excellent performances by community-based arts and cultural organizations like The Nutcracker of Middle Georgia, Macon Civic Club, Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association festival, Otis Redding Foundation and dozens of dance and theatre groups.

More recently, we’re using this year to shine a spotlight on the brightest and most compelling stars right here in our backyard. We’ll be honoring local voices that you may know and some you may have never noticed. Like Ed Grant talking about his father’s journey from being a bartender at Idle Hour during segregation to the moment Cher walked into Grant’s Lounge. Like seeing your child’s science teacher at Mount DeSales belt out a Broadway hit on our fire escape. Like listening to a Monroe County native and Mercer alum talk about her journey to being a healthcare executive and seeing the humanity in a crisis. Support your neighbors and learn about something new. We will meet you where you are comfortable participating. We have so many ways to explore The Grand this year. Macon Masters has in-person and livestream experiences, with live connections between both audiences during the show. Our Broadway Does cabaret series is an outdoor, socially distanced performance, allowing you to enjoy live music and feel secure. Our shows in the theatre have social distanced seating by family/household groups. And if you can’t make our Storytellers Live at The Grand series, tune into “The Heartbeat of Georgia” podcast to listen to the show recorded live.

Your generosity helps sustain the legacy of this 115-year-old theatre and makes it possible for all of us to enjoy high-quality, professional entertainment right here in Macon.
