As the song goes in Hairspray, "Welcome to the Sixtiesss!" ...or not? In the '60s, The Grand struggled to survive due to a deteriorating building deemed, at times, even unsafe for an audience. In fact, The Grand was scheduled to be demolished and turned into a parking lot.Thankfully, community members like Val Sheridan and Ellamae Ellis League saw the potential and fought to save the venue. Today The Grand has lived half a century past its re-opening and renovations.
