Broadway Does The ’90s

AUDITIONS OPEN FORSend Video Auditions by February 15
Performance: March 5 at 7:30 PM

Broadway Does The ’90s is an upbeat cabaret-style performance blending Broadway-inspired vocal stylings with the eclectic atmosphere of an intimate lounge show in downtown Macon. We want to like, totally reimagine where the music of pop queens like Britney can collide with the raw energy of quintessentially ’90s musicals like RENT. We’ll be da bomb singing fun songs from shows like tick…tick…BOOM! or Songs for a New World, as well as getting down with new showtunesy arrangements of songs like “No Scrubs” or “Rebel Girl.” Supported by the Linda Harriet Lane Fund.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Prepare at least 16 bars for the audition. Creativity, humor and adding some Broadway flair is encouraged in interpreting and re-interpreting your song, and song selection is not limited by gender identity or sexuality. Please note that not all submissions will be accepted into the show. Important: Be sure there is sheet music for piano and voice available for your song. This will be necessary to be selected.

Feel free to have as much fun in your audition as you can – these can be fresh, campy, funny interpretations of these songs! The only limitation is that the song must have some tie to 90’s musicals or music. For example, you could sing “Losing my Religion” by R.E.M. or Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby” if choosing a pop song. If choosing a Broadway number, songs like “Wig in a Box” from Hedwig and the Angry Itch or “Mama Will Provide” from Once on This Island are examples of good material.

If you need help with audition material or are sending a video audition, please email us (morrison_j@mercer.edu) or message us on Facebook with questions.

This show has a low-commitment rehearsal schedule with 1-2 rehearsals scheduled prior to the performance, with much of the preparation for your song being done on your own.
